Your Amazing Body: Your Brain

To drive, to walk, to go, to not go, to go now, to go later.

We have SO MANY DECISIONS & THOUGHTS in our day-to-day lives!

While we  have about 70,000 thoughts a day, we don’t often stop to thank our brains for all the hard work they are doing!  The brain is a miraculous muscle that is so mysterious in so many ways.  Here are some fun facts for you to ponder:

* Your brain requires about 20% of the body’s oxygen.  That’s why I’m always hollering at you to breathe during workouts!

* Your brain is 80% water.  Similar to your overall body; even though we don’t think of it that way, as it seems so solid.  This is the reason it is essential to stay hydrated!

*  Your brain is move active and thinks more at night than during the day.  This seems surprising, but it reinforces why it’s so important for us to get regular sleep.  It’s about beauty and brains!

* The left side of your brain controls the right side of your body; conversely, the right side of your brain (right hemisphere) controls the left side of your body.  Exercise can be great for helping the brain since we work opposite sides!

* While the brain helps register when are in sensations (including pain), the brain itself does not sense pain on itself (this is why brain surgeons can probe areas of the brain when a patient is awake).  Interesting.

So, go ahead, put your hand to your mouth, plant a solid kiss, and slap it gently onto your head.  Give your brain a kiss, as my students have learned to do when they are strategic or problem solve!  Your brain is doing amazing things!
