Your Amazing Body: Muscles

Our bodies do all sorts of amazing things for us!  This month, I’m going to have a Sunday series of Your Amazing Body to remind you that as we cruz through life, we need to give shout-outs to the amazingness of our bodies!

Here are some amazing facts about your muscles:

* Your body has over 600 muscles that work together to do activities that you are conscious of (lifting weights) and things you are not usually conscious of (digestive system doing it’s thing).

* In a lifetime, your heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times.  Ba-boom, Ba-boom!

* The largest muscle in the body is the gluteus maximus muscle.  Go booty!

* You use over 30 facial muscles when you are showing emotional expressions.  Try your best looks in the mirror: surprise, happiness, sadness, anger.

* Your eye muscles are the busiest muscles in the body. Scientists estimate they may move more than 100,000 times a day!  Seems crazy, right?

* Your muscles move body parts by contracting and then relaxing. Your muscles can only pull; they can not push.  How can your body move then?  They work together in pairs (i.e. biceps and triceps).

* Strengthen your muscles with regular strength training!  Lifting weights 3 times a week with a day of rest in between is ideal.
