Goal Guidelines for your Beautiful Body

July 22, 2009

Greetings, Beautiful Beings,

I hope this finds ya’ll doing fabulously well and healthy.  It’s nice to get back in the saddle with our fitness updates!  Yee-haw!

Recently, I have heard a few comments about bodies in a negative light.  When it comes to our bodies around the topics of looks and performance, I know we can all get a bit sensitive.  So, it is with loving kindness towards your body, that we will continue forward.  Ready?  Here we go!

  • Your body does amazing things for you, every day, every second.  Appreciate your body.  Breathe.  Let go of any notions that counter this.  Really, let them go.  Now, take a deep breath and repeat the mantra: I appreciate my body.  It does amazing things for me every day, every second.
  • Think about what has been bothering you about your body, being as specific as possible.  For example, “I am not feeling the cottage cheese in my thighs” or “My arm muscles are sagging instead of showing power like Pop-eye” or “My endurance is pooh, and I couldn’t run down the block, even if someone were chasing me.”  Keep in mind that there are most likely more than one challenge you can think of.  Right?  Feel free to think of just your top one; or, brainstorm a list to get them all out there; then, star your top one.
  • Go back to your breath and mantra:  I appreciate my body.  It does amazing things for me every day, every second.
  • Know that you have the power to make a positive change!
  • Take your top challenge and turn it into a positive statement goal.  For example, “I am not feeling the cottage cheese in my thighs” could become “I am going to search the internet for the top leg exercises to do.  I will work out my legs through weights 3 times a week and cardio 4 days a week.”  Or, “My arm muscles are sagging instead of showing power like Pop-eye” becomes “I will hire a personal trainer to set up a program that I will do for 6 weeks.  I will lift weights 3 days a week, being patient with the process.”
  • Check to be sure that your goal is tangible with a realistic outcome.  Can you do that many days with your schedule?  Is the ending result of what you want possible if you stick to your action?  Remember, you want to be set up for success!
  • Go back to your breath and mantra:  I appreciate my body.  It does amazing things for me every day, every second.
  • Write down your goal with your favorite color on a piece of paper.  Put it somewhere where you can see it every day.  Be sure it has included in it how often you will do your action.  Remember, that 3 times a week is often the golden number when it comes to strength/weights.  For cardio, try 3-5; the more often it is, the faster you will see change and results.
  • Come back to these goal guidelines when you are ready to set your next goal!  You can do it one step at a time!!
  • Know that I believe in you!  Feel free to send me an email or chat with me after class about your goal.  You can also make a date with your Fitness Best Friend or just chat with other folks in the gym.  The more you talk about it, the more apt you are to propel into action.  Go on, what are you waiting for?

In awe  of ya’ll being brave to take the next step for that beautiful body of yours,

Heather
