STOP!: Tea Time

I hope this finds ya’ll well and healthy!

Here is another liquid update:
Green tea is good for your health AND qualifies as part of your 8 cups of liquid a day! (By the way, does anyone have another expression for ‘killing two birds with one stone’ that is non-violent??)

Why it is key:

John Weisburger, PhD, has done studies that show the antioxidants in black and green teas to be highly beneficial to our health, including the fact that tea modifies the metabolism to detoxify harmful chemicals.  Teas from the camellia tea plant (which include black, green, and oolong teas) are rich in polyphenols, which are a type of antioxidant. These nutrients look for cell-damaging free radicals in the body and detoxify them. Sounds kinda star-wars-esque and cool to me! In fact, Weisburger even claims that tea’s antioxidant power has about eight to 10 times the polyphenols found in fruits and vegetables!  Wowzers!  besides this benefit, there are also claims that green tea helps with weight loss, sleep apnea, better skin, slowing breast cancer, and lowering risk of heart disease (among other things). All in all, green tea is a good ritual for yourself during the day, counts as part of your essential water intake, and has other health benefits.

Reality check:
Make part of your water intake green tea!  For those of you not partial to the flavor, you can buy green tea mixed with other flavors.  My favorite is green tea with mint from Trader Joe’s and downy jasmine peal from Peets (although that latter gets very strong very fast).  Also, if you want to steer clear of caffeine, you can try decaf!
